Welcome Readers! Today I thought I would answer a question I frequently get asked, Why do we have quiet time and what is it?
Well quiet time in our home is normally around 2 o'clock. I set up my bed, Sophia bed or the couch just to lay down on and relax to some lullabies. I just use my phone and some YouTube! Its great and effective when its just loud enough where you have no choice but to listen to it.
I start by putting the music on and getting Sophia a snack. She loves bananas for her quiet time snack and she will lay in the bed and enjoy them for heading off to dream land. This is when i will turn the music up just a little bit to the point where she can hear it clearly and tell her to lay down.
Sophia is usually pretty good at lying still but sometimes if you gently rock where she is laying or rock her in general she will fall asleep in no time! This nap usually lasts until 430-5 o'clock when daddy gets home from work and dinner is ready to eat.
So yes, Quiet time is nap time. I changed what we call nap time because I know when Sophia hears the word nap, she will run from it and do everything in her strength to stay awake. When I say its quiet time she will lay down and accept the fact that she is a little tired.
------------What does mommy do during quiet time?-------
Well I cook, last minuet cleaning, writing up some pieces to go onto here of course, sometimes I will have a nap myself or get some last minuet laundry put away when I fall behind.
Quiet time is a great idea for parents with kids that just refuse to nap, Sophia is an energetic child and If i Let her she will go all day but boy do we regret it when we try to get her to eat her dinner. She now gets the nap she needs to be willing to eat her dinner and her desert too.
When Sophia wakes up we eat dinner, have a bath, get our pajamas on and do a fun activity together like coloring, playing outside or playing with some toys. Then we lay down in bed and either watch her Toopy and Binoo disc or her Strawberry Shortcake movie. We try and keep routine as much as possible so Sophia will know when its time to go to bed.
Once I decide that Toopy and Binoo should be shut off ( because it continuously plays) or when Strawberry Shortcake is over the TV is shut off and the lullabies on our sound machine turn on. I will sit in Sophia's room till she is asleep on the harder nights or on the good nights she will go to sleep on her own.
Quiet time is happy time in our house and it helps me maintain the house, my health and my growing pregnancy. Plus it gives Sophia the naps she still needs as a growing toddler!
Hope you all enjoyed this piece on why and what we do for quiet time and why it made such a difference in our life.
